Run Down Adapters

A run-down adapter is also known as a 'joint rate simulator' and is mounted between torque calibration equipment and a torque tool to simulate 'real world' tightening conditions. It mimics the peaks and troughs of resistance a screw fastening could create, by using springs and mechanical braking systems, until the powered torque tool reaches its preset torque.

Run-down adapters are used where torque tools need to be accountable under real-world conditions to provide repeatable and accurate torque, and not just be measured through static performance, which is why they are used in calibration labs and quality control settings, mainly to test electric and pneumatic torque screwdrivers.
