Bi-Metallic Cable Lugs

A bi-metallic cable lug is an electrical connector made from aluminium and copper, used to terminate aluminium conductors onto copper connection points on equipment such as busbars, switchgear and transformers.

Bi-metallic cable lugs have an aluminium barrel with a copper palm, which helps prevent the issues that can occur when copper and aluminium are connected directly, such as galvanic corrosion, increased electrical resistance and heat build-up. The aluminium and copper sections are usually joined through a process called friction welding, which creates a strong, conductive bond between the two materials.

Bi-metallic cable lugs are used by utility companies for power distribution systems, as well as by solar and renewable energy engineers connecting aluminium PV cable to copper busbars.
