Impact Sockets
An impact socket is designed to be used with a powered impact wrench, which is also known as an 'impact driver'. This enables the operator to apply greater levels of torque to a fastener (such as a nut or bolt), than what would be achieved with the use of a torque wrench.
Impact sockets can withstand more torque than standard sockets and are usually black, in order to help the operator to differentiate them from other sockets in their tool kit.
