Box Spanners

A box spanner is a hand tool, which is also known as a 'tubular spanner'. Box spanners have a long cylindrical shape and encapsulate fastener heads from above. To turn a box spanner the operator will need to insert a tommy bar through two holes, which are found at the opposite side of the spanner and apply force by either pushing or pulling the tommy bar.

Box spanners are used by plumbers for fastening bolts in hard to reach places, like under a sink, as well as by mechanics for reaching bolts in tight spaces around an engine.
