Slogging Spanners

A slogging spanner is a hand tool made from hardened steel that is also known as a 'hammer wrench' or 'flogging spanner' and is designed to loosen stubborn fasteners, such as those that have rusted, or extremely tight nuts and bolts on heavy machinery.

Slogging spanners work by the oparator attaching it to the fastener and then hitting the opposite end (which normally is a thicker piece of steel) with a hammer or mallet, which passes high levels of force and vibration through to the nut or bolt as the spanner turns.

Open end slogging spanners are ideal for use when space is tight, whereas ring end slogging spanners are better for use on extremely stubborn bolts, because they can pass vibration around the full circumference of the fastener.

Slogging spanners are used by scaffolders to loosen stubborn nuts and bolts, as well as vehicle technicians, especially those working on high torque fasteners such as tractor and truck wheel bolts.
