Insulated VDE Sockets
Insulated sockets are also known as 'VDE sockets' and are very much like a standard hex or bi-hex socket, with the only difference being that they have a plastic insulation, allowing them to be used safely on equipment where an electrical current is flowing.
Insulated sockets can be used on currents up to 1000 volts (always check the electrical rating of a socket before use) and have coloured skins, which indicate whether the socket is fully insulated or compromised. They are commonly used by electricians, DIYers, maintenance engineers and anyone who may be working on potentially eletcrically live equipment.
