Open-Ended Spanners
An open-ended spanner is a hand tool that is also known as an 'open end spanner', 'double-ended wrench' or 'flared spanner' and has a U-shaped or flared end that is designed to grip the sides of bolts and fixings, to tighten and un-tighten them.
The U-shaped end is usually manufactured at an angle to the handle to enhance accessibility and comfort for the operator, and due the fact open-end spanners grip the sides of a fastener, they are ideal for use when space is restricted.
Open-ended spanners are widely used by DIYers, but are also used by mechanics for tightening and loosening fasteners on engines, as well as by plumbers who may use flared spanners when working on tube fittings.
