Water pump pliers are a hand tool that are also known as 'tongue-and-groove pliers', as well as 'groove-joint pliers'.
They have a slip joint design that creates a high degree of maneuverability between the jaws, which are set between 45° and 60° from the handles, enabling them to hold pipes, as well as nuts, bolts and irregular shaped objects.
Water pump pliers are used by plumbers to grip and loosen pipes, but are also used in the automotive industry for jobs like loosening clamps and hoses, as well as by heating engineers for jobs like loosening old fittings, such as corroded valves.
