VDE side cutters perform the same as non-insulated side cutters, which is to strip insulation, hold cable and also indent and wedge cable apart with their sharp edges. However VDE side cutters have insulated plastic sleeves that protect the operator from electrical shock when working on live electrical equipment up to 1000 volts.
