Many of our customers will have spoken to Milly Brooks who is a member of our Internal Sales Team.
Milly joined Heamar in 2016 as an apprentice and has been going from strength to strength ever since. Having achieved an NVQ Level 2 in Customer Service with flying colours, she is now working towards an NVQ Level 3 in Sales.
We asked Milly about her experience working as an apprentice at Heamar:
Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship after leaving school?
A few of my friends had applied and I didn’t really understand what an apprenticeship was. Once explained to me I thought it sounded perfect for me. I wasn’t enjoying what I was doing in college so thought it was worth a shot.
What have been the biggest challenges over the last 12 months?
The biggest challenge would have to be adapting to a working environment. I had come straight from school and the only experience I had was working in a pub. It was a big shock.
What has given you the most job satisfaction over the last 12 months?
The thing that gives me the most satisfaction is when hard work pays off and we get good feedback from customers or when I exceed targets that have been set.
What have been your highlights working at Heamar so far?
It would be the people I work with. I am always being pushed to achieve targets and have got great support at work.
Tell me about the course you’re doing now?
I have just started my Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Sales. It is a big jump from what I did last year however I’m hoping to finish this within the next year/18 months.
Where do you see yourself in the future?
Hopefully still working here at Heamar. I really enjoy my job and want to continue to do well in my role and grow within the company.
Do you have any advice for other people thinking about an apprenticeship?
Go for it. In my eyes, it is the best option as you are receiving training as well as gaining years of working experience. This gives you a huge advantage over those who are leaving college after 2 years.
What is your favourite food?
Pie and Chips
Favourite TV show?
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I’m currently learning to drive. I have taken my test twice now but failed both times. I have booked in for my next one but have decided to keep it quiet this time. Hopefully it will be third time lucky!
